It’s The Denver North Star’s first birthday during this month of spooky! We want to celebrate (in a socially distanced way, of course) with you! Join us with our community co-hosts, Little Man Ice Cream and Nostalgic Homes, for a “BOO-tiful Northside Mural Challenge” between October 15-31. It’s a unique Instagram selfie extravaganza with a chance to win a $1,000 Northside Pride Gift Basket and other great prizes. It’s a cool way to learn about all of the neighborhoods, artists and local businesses in our Northwest Denver beat.
Hundreds of expressive murals can be seen throughout nearly every North Denver neighborhood. Some are bold and proud adorning buildings, community gardens, school buses and campers. Others are hidden in alleys, on benches, shipping containers, utility and mailboxes, or garage doors. All are a testament to the creative juices flowing in our rich tapestry of neighborhoods. We’ve highlighted some of our favorites here in this photo collage, but, we hope to learn about many other hidden treasures that you might find along the way. The lucky winning pictures will be featured in our November edition. Enjoy!
HERE’S THE CHALLENGE:
- Wear your best Halloween Mask or full-on costume and take a selfie at some of Northwest Denver’s best murals anytime between October 15-31
- Visit a minimum of 5 murals, post your photos on our instagram @denvernorthstar and tell us what you love about Northwest Denver.
- Use these hashtags in your posts #denvernorthstar, #northdenvermurals, #northsidepride. If you see the artist’s name or the business the mural is on, tag them too. We want to share the love!
- Email your photos to murals@denvernorthstar for our judges selection and a chance to be featured in our upcoming November edition.
- All entries will be judged by North Denver’s own muralist, “Jolt” (Jeremy Ulibarri) and other local artists!
- Finally, everyone who participates and shows their 5 mural selfies to the Little Man Ice Cream team on October 31 from noon – 7pm will receive a safe, pre-packed bag of candy to celebrate the spooky season. (Hint, Hint: Our judge, Jolt, has a cool mural at Little Man Ice Cream, 2620 16th Street, if you need one more for your last photo opp.)

FIRST PRIZE: $1,000 Northside Pride Gift Package including a 2 night mountain condo stay*, restaurant gift cards, swag, spirits, services and more!
SECOND PRIZE: $500 shopping spree from Nostalgic Homes!
THIRD PRIZE: An ice cream social for 10 at the Little Man Ice Cream Factory!
